Keep or Toss

Recently, I have had the pleasure of helping other people in their closets. It has been enlightening and reiterates what I need to do to keep my closet fresh and up to date.
If you want to update your own closet, you first must play KEEP or TOSS. Frankly, I am not sentimental when it comes to clothes. Unless it is a wedding dress, handmade, or a precious gift, you have permission to discard!
  •  Alot yourself two hour blocks to work in your closet, no more at one time. After two hours you have had enough.

  • You need to make 4 stacks:
1- ALTERATIONS
These are items that you love, but are currently not wearing because they do not fit properly. Take them to alterations as soon as possible.

                2- RESALE
These are the items that are still in good condition, no stains or tears. They may be too small or too big. They were not inexpensive when you bought them, and you think someone else could also get good wear time from them. Go ahead and load them in your car now. Take them to a local resale shop as soon as you can.

               3- DONATE
These are the items that may have a small stain or were not expensive. These you will donate to someone less fortunate. Go ahead and load these items in your car now as well. You need space in your closet! No matter how much you love it, stains, tears, pilings and moth holes are never fashionable!!

                4- DIFFERENT SEASON
These items are in your way. You will not possibly wear them at the current time because of temperature and climate. Find a place for these outside of your everyday closet. Put them in the guest room, storage or basement. Just make sure they are protected.

If you are torn about whether and item goes in an above pile or remains in your closet, ask yourself the following questions:

**Would I buy it again?
** Have I worn it in the last 12 months?
** Does it look worn out or tired?
